Maison & Objet 2020 round-up

Earlier this month we visited the sprawling bi-annual Parisian design fest of Maison & Objet. Spread across 8 vast halls, this twice-yearly fair is a must visit to see all the latest interior launches and trends for the coming season.

Highlights included emerging talent from Qatar, the Designer of the Year exhibition by Michael Anastassiades, and the relaunch of a design classic from French furniture stalwart Ligne Roset. Here are a few of the products which caught our eye …

Above left: French furniture stalwart Ligne Roset reissued the dunelike modular classic Asmara Sofa. First designed by Bernard Govin in 1966 and has been coveted by 60s furniture collectors ever since.

Above right: Another classic reissue was the iconic Paris lamp designed by Studio Job for Qeeboo. Job Smeets’ concept is inspired by the years when, as a young “bohemian”, he lived in Paris and the Tower was his neighbour, a reassuring presence in his life. Initially produced in a limited edition, now completely redesigned both in shapes and materials, Paris enters the Qeeboo world.

Above left: London-based lighting designer Michael Anastassiades was the choice for Maison’s Designer of the Year 2020. For his showcase in Hall 7, he brought together all 16 of his Mobile Chandeliers for a special immersive feature.

Above right: France was the focus for the 2020 edition of the annual Rising Talents Awards. Each year Maison&Objet focuses on a country and showcases its up and coming design talent in the Hall 6 feature space. The six French designers selected were Wendy Andreu, Mathieu Peyroulet Ghilini, Laureline Galliot, Julie Richoz, Adrien Garci and Natacha & Sasha, all had been chosen by a jury of leading industry professionals.

Above left: Another new design feature was the Emerging Talent from Qatar feature in Hall 7. Showcasing a range of furniture, lighting, ceramics, graphic design and giftware. Our pick was Clay Encounters, a ceramic design studio founded by Reema Abu Hassan.

Above right: The Folk collection was one of the many highlights launched by Iconic Italian brand PEDRALI. Designed by CMP, this simple compact chair made from ash wood and can be upholstered in a variety of fabrics.
