Laurids Gallée designs first glass collection for Moser

The Czech glassmaker Moser presents Axis, a limited-edition collection developed in collaboration with Rotterdam-based designer Laurids Gallée. The project marks Gallée’s first exploration of glass, bringing his sculptural language into dialogue with one of Europe’s most established traditions of hand-crafted crystal.

For more than 169 years, Moser has worked exclusively with hand-formed, lead-free crystal, a process shaped by time, control and inherited skill. In Axis, this heritage is paired with a contemporary design approach rooted in structure and rhythm, where form is shaped as much by light as by material.

Comprising a vase, a bottle, and two glass-and-coaster sets, the collection draws on early 20th-century modernist architecture. Each object is conceived as a study in light — not simply reflected on the surface, but directed, refracted and held within the body of the piece. Geometry becomes a framework through which light is organised, creating a shifting sense of depth and movement.

A defining element of the collection is the use of wedge cuts, an exacting and time-intensive technique that demands absolute precision. These cuts are not decorative, but structural, determining both the form of the object and the way it interacts with light. Even the slightest deviation is visible, requiring accuracy to within a tenth of a millimetre.

“Pushing the absolute limits of what is technically possible is what excites me most. I have immense respect for the craftsmanship of the team at Moser, who not only met those challenges, but pushed them even further.” — Laurids Gallée

The collection is produced in Moser’s signature rosalin tone, which unfolds across a subtle spectrum — from deeper rose hues to near-transparent crystal. Colour is embedded within the material itself, shifting in intensity depending on thickness, angle and light.

Each piece is shaped, cut and finished by hand, with master cutter Miroslav Maděra — drawing on more than three decades of experience — playing a central role in achieving the clarity and precision the designs require. The process cannot be accelerated: from furnace to final cut, each stage depends on timing, control and a deep understanding of the material.

“We’re delighted that Laurids Gallée chose Moser for his first project in glass. His contemporary aesthetic and influence with a younger generation of collectors complement our vision perfectly, and it’s exciting to see those worlds come together.” — Jan Plecháč Creative Director, Moser

All works in the Axis collection are produced as limited editions. The vase is issued in 50 pieces, while the bottle and the two glass-and-coaster sets are each produced in editions of 100. Each object is signed by Laurids Gallée, marked with the Moser logo, and individually numbered, with collectors able to select their preferred edition where available.
