Mini Moderns get close-up on classic Palm Springs architecture

The latest wallpaper design by Mini Moderns was conceived during an architectural pilgrimage to Palm Springs, California. The renowned mid-century design destination had long been on the travel wish-list of creative duo, Keith Stephenson and Mark Hampshire, who often take inspiration from architecture to create their patterns.

Palm Canyon Drive is a large-scale graphic design that references the geometric relief cladding on the former Robinson’s department store, designed in 1958 by Periera & Luckman. The building has been designated a Class 1 Historic Site. The name for the design was informed by the location of the building - situated at the corner of South Palm Canyon Drive and West Baristo Avenue.

Mark and Keith explain: “To evoke the relief pattern, we used a combination of cross hatching and hand drawn lines, forming the impression of a three-dimensional panel.”

Palm Canyon Drive is part of Mini Moderns’ Short Stories collection – an ongoing project exploring new designs alongside patterns that Mark and Keith didn't have the opportunity to include in previous collections.

Palm Canyon Drive is available in 3 colourways: High Tide, Pantile, and Olive.

All Mini Moderns wallpapers are printed in the UK using water-based inks on FSC certified paper from responsible sources. The print process uses energy from renewable resources.
