Clerkenwell Design Week 2026 Highlights: Design, Innovation and New Showroom Openings

Clerkenwell Design Week 2026 once again transformed London's design district into a showcase for creativity, craftsmanship and material innovation. Across the 3 day festival, leading brands, architects and designers unveiled immersive installations, sustainable materials, contemporary furniture collections and new showroom destinations. From Lakwena Maciver's landmark mosaic collaboration with TREND Group and Solus to Studio Egret West's circular-economy BREW HOUSE pavilion and Kettal's new London flagship, this year's Clerkenwell Design Week highlighted the ideas, partnerships and products shaping the future of design.

Sidequest: Mosaics as Pixelated Portals to Paradise

Lakwena x TREND Group x Solus

Among the standout installations at Clerkenwell Design Week 2026 was Sidequest: Mosaics as Pixelated Portals to Paradise, a large-scale mosaic installation by artist Lakwena Maciver, created in collaboration with TREND Group and Solus. Presented within the Solus Clerkenwell showroom, the project marked Lakwena's first major exploration of mosaic as a medium.

Named after Solus' Sidequest glass mosaic collection, the installation featured a series of vibrant panels that translated Lakwena's distinctive visual language of colour, pattern and recurring hand motifs into mosaic form. The project brought together the strengths of all three collaborators: Lakwena's artistic vision, TREND Group's expertise in glass mosaic production, and Solus' role as a platform for design-led exhibitions and creative partnerships.

Produced using the 170-colour Sidequest range and drawing on the heritage of Orsoni, the historic Venetian furnace where smalti and gold-leaf mosaics have been crafted since 1888, the installation demonstrated how traditional craftsmanship can be reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. Extending beyond Clerkenwell Design Week, Sidequest remains on display throughout the summer.

BREW HOUSE Pavilion

Studio Egret West

Sustainable architecture and material innovation were central themes at Clerkenwell Design Week 2026, exemplified by Studio Egret West's BREW HOUSE pavilion in Brewhouse Yard. Constructed from 600 innovative Brew Bricks made using approximately 300kg of waste coffee grounds collected from London cafés, the project explored how waste materials can be reintroduced into the construction cycle.

Developed with York Handmade Brick Company, each Brew Brick incorporates organic waste into the clay-firing process, reducing finite clay consumption by 10 per cent while creating a brick that is 5 per cent lighter than a standard unit. The resulting material offers benefits for transportation efficiency and has the potential to reduce structural loads in façade applications.

Designed in collaboration with Simple Works, the pavilion serves as a full-scale demonstration of circular economy principles in action. More than a temporary installation, BREW HOUSE highlights how architects, manufacturers and local businesses can work together to develop innovative building materials that support a more sustainable built environment.

Kettal London Flagship Showroom Opening

Timeless Spanish furniture brand Kettal celebrated Clerkenwell Design Week 2026 with the opening of its new London flagship showroom at Paulton House. Marking the company's 60th anniversary, the launch was accompanied by a programme of installations, talks and events exploring contemporary furniture design and architecture.

The new showroom brought together collections and collaborations from internationally recognised designers including Barber Osgerby, Foster + Partners Industrial Design, Jasper Morrison, Patricia Urquiola, Vincent Van Duysen and Verner Panton. Visitors were also able to explore the Eames Pavilion System, developed in collaboration with the Eames Office.

A highlight of the programme was a conversation between Jay Osgerby and Eckart Maise, organised in partnership with the Charles & Ray Eames Foundation and Phaidon. The discussion examined design heritage, innovation and the lasting influence of Charles and Ray Eames on contemporary design culture.

The opening establishes Kettal's presence within East London's design community while creating a new destination for architects, designers and specifiers in one of the capital's most influential design districts.

El Salón

Interiors from Spain x Disegno

One of the most thoughtfully curated exhibitions at Clerkenwell Design Week 2026, El Salón celebrated the breadth and quality of contemporary Spanish design. Commissioned by Interiors from Spain and created in partnership with Disegno, the installation was designed by London-based Galician designer Tomás Alonso and presented within the historic Chapter Hall of the Museum of the Order of St John.

Inspired by the Spanish concept of the salón as a space for gathering and conversation, the exhibition brought together products from leading Spanish furniture, lighting and interiors brands, including APE Grupo, a·emotional light, BPM Lighting, Huguet, Joquer, RS Barcelona and Sellex.

Alonso's display structures were deliberately restrained, wrapped in draped Gabriel upholstery fabric to minimise material use while creating a calm backdrop for the products on show. Set against the museum's historic architecture, the installation created a compelling dialogue between heritage and contemporary design, highlighting Spanish design's growing international influence.

Event 001: Grounded Transcendence

Domus x CAKE Architecture x Mutina

At the Domus showroom during Clerkenwell Design Week 2026, CAKE Architecture presented Event 001: Grounded Transcendence, an immersive installation exploring the relationship between architecture, sound and materiality.

Mutina ceramic surfaces shaped the environment throughout. Motivo lined the walls, while the sculptural 3D Bloc collection formed both the dance floor and DJ booth. Celosia elements were incorporated as seating, creating a unified spatial language finished in a tonal matt charcoal palette.

Alongside the installation, Domus presented a curated display of Mutina surfaces in black-to-grey colourways, celebrating a long-standing collaboration between the two brands. Together, the installation and exhibition highlighted Mutina's continued exploration of texture, depth and architectural surface design, demonstrating how materials can shape atmosphere, movement and emotional engagement within interior spaces.
